Pinning Your Best Tweets and Facebook Posts
There’s a great saying in sports that you’re only as good as your last game, and sometimes I feel that way about our social media page. You’ve got a great post, one of your favorite, all-time, that really explains what you do as a company or really adds value to your customers, but every day you’re putting more information on. You know that any time somebody comes to your Facebook or your Twitter page that they’re only maybe going to see the top two or three posts on your page.
Did you know that on both of those platforms, you can actually pin the post that you want to always be at the top? It’s a little bit different on Facebook than Twitter, but it’s pretty much the same concept. You can take your favorite post, and you can pin it to the top, so that every new visitor will always find your best content.
Let’s take a look at how to do this on Facebook real quick together.
All right. I’m looking at the Facebook page for TooJay’s, which is a deli with about 25 locations in Florida. I want to point out that you have to be logged in with the account that is set up to actually administrate the Facebook page. You can’t make any changes to a page that you’re not an administrator of. Now that you’re on the page, the first step is to actually locate the post that you want to pin to the top.
The post I’m looking for is no longer at the top, so I have to scroll down. I’m looking for a specific offer that they’re running, and here it is. So I’ve located the post that I want to pin, and in the upper right-hand corner, there’s this downward facing arrow. I’m actually going to take the very obvious option here, Pin to Top. It’s going to refresh the page for me, and now you’re going to find at the top of the page, the actual post that we pinned. You will also see that there is a little bookmark right above the arrow, letting you know that that post is pinned to the top.
Any customers who discover this page, that come here, are going to realize that they’re running this offer as the first post. If I decide that enough time has passed and I want to take that away, I click on the same arrow and I unpin from top, and it goes right back to the timeline based on the chronological posting. So that’s how you pin a post to Facebook.
Right now, at the top of my personal Twitter page, I’ve actually pinned a post about The Bootstrapper’s Guide to SEO, which is the book I wrote. On our Facebook page for Juicy Results, we’ve actually pinned a video about our social media marketing, but I’m just about to change that to a post about a webinar that we have coming up.
So I want to challenge you to think strategically about the best post that you can put at the top of your social media channels.
